Snail Mail

folk · lo-fi · rock

Snail Mail is the indie rock project of singer, guitarist and songwriter Lindsey Jordan, born June 16, 1999 and raised in Ellicott City, Maryland. She started classical guitar lessons at five and has said that seeing Paramore at eight set her on the path to a band of her own. She began performing as Snail Mail in 2015, at fifteen, self-releasing the EP Stick that year and following it in 2016 with Habit on Sister Polygon Records. She signed to Matador Records in September 2017 and released her debut album, Lush, in 2018. Valentine, in 2021, widened the palette with synthesizers and strings. Her third album, Ricochet, came out on March 27, 2026, produced by Aron Kobayashi Ritch and recorded at the Fidelitorium in Kernersville, North Carolina, and at Studio G in Greenpoint and The Nightfly in Bushwick; Jordan has said she spent roughly four years optimising her process for it. It was preceded by the singles Dead End, My Maker and Tractor Beam, drew generally favorable reviews and charted in the United Kingdom. Jordan cites Hayley Williams, Liz Phair and Avril Lavigne as formative, alongside Fiona Apple, Elliott Smith, My Bloody Valentine and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth. She moved from New York City to North Carolina in 2024. Her writing is direct and first-person, and the records are built around her own guitar playing.
