Velvet Daydream
Velvet Daydream is a rock and psychedelic rock band from Denver, Colorado, built around frontman Ryder King on vocals and guitar, Kaeden Keys on guitar, Jude Pfanstiel on bass and Nick Schwartz on drums, with all four singing. Schwartz and King began playing together in middle school in Broomfield and met Keys around the start of the pandemic, jamming outdoors in masks; the lineup was completed in February 2023 when Pfanstiel answered an Instagram message from the band. Their debut album, The Velvet Daydream, arrived in October 2023 and was cut to vintage tape at Far and Away Studios in Boulder, running from the catchier No Eyes to the six-minute psychedelic closer Monique; its vinyl pressing sold out. A two-song single, Leave You There backed with Blackberry Jam, followed in 2024. The eleven-track second album Smoke and Mirrors was released on March 28, 2026 through Flagstaff Records in a gatefold twelve-inch edition, with the closing track Rock and Roll Jesus recorded live with friends at the Teller House Ballroom, an 1870s Victorian hotel in Central City, Colorado. The band cites the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, the Rolling Stones, War, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Sly and the Family Stone, and describes the record's territory as the meeting point of the Summer of Love and the Rocky Mountains. Schwartz has said the group always returns to a high-energy rock base built on thump, speed and grit. Their live show leans theatrical, including a modified smoking guitar. Colorado Public Radio featured them in its Local 303 series in April 2026. The band plays Colorado rooms including Globe Hall in Denver, along with dates in Telluride, Palisade and Victor.
