The Aquabats!

The Aquabats are an American rock band formed in 1994 in Huntington Beach, California, known for performing in matching superhero costumes and masks with staged mock battles against costumed villains. Christian Jacobs, Chad Larson and Boyd Terry started the group as a joke act satirizing the Orange County punk scene, then turned toward ska after attending a local ska show. Jacobs and Larson have been the two constant members through the lineup changes since, performing as the MC Bat Commander on vocals and Crash McLarson on bass; the current lineup adds James Briggs as Jimmy the Robot on saxophone and keyboards, Ricky Falomir as Ricky Fitness on drums and Ian Fowles as Eaglebones Falconhawk on guitar, with Courtney Pollock, Boyd Terry and Gorney appearing regularly as live contributors. The band's sound moved from the ska punk of its first years through a new wave-influenced period and into guitar-driven rock and punk that still carries new wave, ska and synth-pop elements. Its albums include The Return of The Aquabats in 1995, The Fury of The Aquabats! in 1997, which reached number 172 on the Billboard 200, Hi-Five Soup! in 2011, which reached number 181 on the same chart, Kooky Spooky in Stereo in 2020 and Finally! in 2024. The group also created and starred in the live-action series The Aquabats! Super Show!, which ran for three seasons on The Hub from 2012 to 2014, drew eight Daytime Emmy nominations and won one; a successor series, The Aquabats! RadVentures!, ran on YouTube from 2019 to 2025.
