Hello Biplane is a Lawrence, Kansas indie folk-pop group founded in 2010 by songwriting partners Spencer Goertz-Giffen and Braden Young, who met commuting to community college and are partners in life as well as in music. The two share vocals and guitar and perform either as a duo or with a full band made up of Jeff Jackson on bass, Austin Sinkler on drums, Hugh Naughtin on cello and synthesizer, and Nate Holt on keys, synthesizer and accordion. The band calls its music futuracana, an alt, indie and folk-pop mix built on close vocal harmony and fingerstyle guitar leads and widened by cello, synths and accordion. Its catalog includes two EPs, a self-titled 2010 debut and LINE, along with singles such as Balloon, Fetch, Spotlight and See It Through, plus holiday and children's lullaby recordings. The eleven-track full-length How to Hold a Bug arrived on March 27, 2026, engineered by Young with Jim Piller of the Roseline and issued on vinyl, CD and digital; reviewers heard nineties rock, the Beatles and a trace of Britpop in it, alongside references to Lawrence itself. Release shows followed at the Bottleneck in Lawrence on March 28 with the Roseline and Thighmastr, and at the Brick on April 10 with the Kansas City Bear Fighters and the Creepy Jingles. The songs deal with the ordinary texture of long relationships, with raising children, and with sustaining creative work alongside parenthood; the single Balloon takes watching a child grow as its subject. The band's name is meant to evoke fleeting moments that still leave something behind. Kansas Public Radio premiered See It Through and profiled the group around the album's release.
