glaive

glaive is the stage name of Ash Blue Gutierrez, an American singer, songwriter and producer born on January 20, 2005 and raised in Hendersonville, North Carolina. He began recording in his bedroom during the COVID-19 pandemic while attending high school remotely, uploaded his first song to SoundCloud in April 2020, and found collaborators through hyperpop Discord servers; the stage name comes from a weapon in the video game Dark Souls III. His track Sick drew the attention of manager Dan Awad in mid-2020, leading to playlist placement and a deal with Interscope Records before he turned sixteen, and the EP Cypress Grove arrived that November. He followed it with the EPs All Dogs Go to Heaven (2021), Then I'll Be Happy with Ericdoa (2021) and the expanded Old Dog, New Tricks (2022). His debut studio album, I Care So Much That I Don't Care at All, was released in 2023 and addressed his bisexuality in part, most directly on the single As If. He left Interscope in June 2024 and has released independently since, issuing May It Never Falter (2024), Y'all (2025) and God Save the Three (2026), a collaborative record with Kurtains. Critics place his music between hyperpop and digicore while noting borrowings from Midwest emo, pop punk, glitch, trap and indie rock, with lyrics returning to alienation and mental health. He has toured North America and Europe repeatedly since his first headlining run in February 2022, opened for the Kid Laroi on the End of the World Tour, and shared bills with Aldn, Midwxst, Underscores, Origami Angel and Oso Oso. He played a charity concert in Asheville in April 2025 and named 2025 singles Asheville and Appalachia after the region he grew up in. Recent albums were written and recorded in remote settings including Hope, Alaska, and Iceland.
