Belleview is an indie rock band from the St. Louis area, based across the river in Edwardsville, Illinois, and built around brothers Justin and Jamal McLaughlin. Justin plays drums and percussion; Jamal sings and plays keyboards and guitar. The lineup has expanded over the years to include childhood friend Josh Steinmann on bass, vocals and Moog Taurus pedals, cousin Chris Ash on guitar, violin, keyboards and vocals, Brennan Stamps on guitar and vocals, and John Hopkins on guitar and vocals. Their debut, Fountains, released in January 2010, was a science-fiction concept album about catastrophe and renewal; the band has described writing it as a single narrative rather than a set of unrelated songs, taking 1970s concept records such as 2112 and The Dark Side of the Moon and the rebooted Battlestar Galactica series as reference points. Those sessions also pushed Jamal toward keyboards, moved Stamps to primary guitar, and brought Moog pedals and electronic drum sounds into the arrangements. Two records followed in 2014, The Here & After in May and Give in to Reason in October, then False Alarms in August 2019. After roughly two years away from the stage the band returned with the single A.I. Am I in February 2026 and the twelve-track album Dream Journal in March 2026, self-engineered, mixed by Ryan Wasoba at Bird Cloud Recording and mastered by Daniel Mehrmann at Midtown Sound House, with cover art by Jim Harper. Dream Journal runs about forty-four minutes and includes Dreaming's Easy and Patience. The band played an album release show at the Old Rock House in St. Louis in August 2026, with Seashine and Blinded by Stereo supporting.
